Dr. Peter Forkner is an AI mental health strategist, consultant, and psychologist with over 20 years of experience in higher education and mental health. With a career dedicated to fostering resilience and well-being, he now specializes in the intersection of artificial intelligence and mental health, exploring how technology can enhance mental health support.
Dr. Forkner spent 15 years at Bentley University, where he served as Director of the Counseling Center, leading initiatives to support student mental health, develop resilience-based programs, and integrate innovative approaches into mental health services. He spearheaded a pilot of a generative AI mental health chatbot, pushing the boundaries of how AI can be ethically and effectively integrated into mental health support.
As an expert in positive psychology, mental health and AI assisted support, Dr. Forkner brings a unique perspective. His work focuses on helping individuals and organizations thrive in the age of AI, using data-driven tools to enhance decision-making, resilience, and professional growth. His consulting and speaking engagements explore how AI can be ethically integrated into mental health treatment, ensuring it complements and augments rather than replaces human expertise.
Dr. Forkner has presented at national conferences, including NASPA, AUCCCD, and ACHA, on topics such as positive psychology, building resilience, and the intersection of AI and mental health. He is currently expanding his expertise in AI-driven health care solutions through Harvard Medical School’s Leading AI Innovation in Health Care program, further strengthening his ability to bridge psychology, technology, and workforce engagement.
His current projects include the development of an AI clinical training tool to improve clinical interviewing and risk assessment, developing AI-assisted therapy frameworks and consulting on how companies can harness empirically validated principles of positive psychology to better support their workforce. With a passion for human flourishing in an AI-enhanced world, Dr. Forkner continues to explore the balance between innovation and personal growth, ensuring that technology serves as a tool for empowerment rather than dependence.
